Fermacell is one such material. A high performance multi-purpose building board that when installed combines the properties of solid blockwork with the speed and flexibility of conventional drywall techniques, and which lets the designer use radical solutions in internal space planning.
 
In 1971 Fels-Werke GmbH introduced FERMACELL. The idea of developing a particularly robust and high-quality drywall panel matured.

Key specifications included:

Recycled and recyclable material to be used.
Sustainable use of natural resources.
Compliance with strict criteria in terms of environmentally sound construction in the following areas: raw materials, production and finishing.

This means that the trend towards environmentally sound construction had already been recognised and implemented successfully over 30 years ago.
