Construction is one of the last industries to develop from tradition methods. Over the past decade great strides have been made by modular and portable building manufacturers in the design and build quality of accomodation units – responding to the needs and requirements of the marketplace.

A major factor in the growth of OSC emanates from the recommendations made nearly 20 years ago by the Government’s Construction Task Force, led by Sir John Egan, to investigate the state of the British construction industry. The 1998 ‘Egan Report’ highlighted the fact that much of the construction sector was underperforming and inefficient. It identified five key drivers of change that needed to set the agenda for the construction industry at large – customer focused approach, committed leadership, integration of processes and teams, quality control, and a commitment to people.

Now, more often the building of permanent and temporary buildings is being planned and constructed offsite. Bathrooms, bedrooms, military accommodation and complete office blocks and hotels are being built in factories where productivity is higher, waste is lower and the build is not subject to changing weather conditions.

Fermacell is renowned within the industry as the market leading building board for this type of construction as it is more dense, structurally stronger and offers the manufacturer a more flexible and robust solution. In recent years Fermacell has been used in military accommodation for the MOD, a testament to its durability and strength, high quality luxury bathrooms for 5 star hotels and portable temporary buildings for site offices.

Fermacell is limited by size and we can manufacture the largest single Gypsum Fibreboard sheet in the world – 6m x 2.54m, meaning that complete walls can be built without the need for joints. We have great experience in the design of production lines and the material handling of large format sheets, reducing cost and increasing productivity.
