Work began on the redevelopment in July 2018 and phase one is now successfully completed with 12 new ICU beds supporting the critical care capacity for COVID-19 patients in London. Neonatal and adult patients are now being treated in the world-class facilities. Designed by Ryder Architecture, the new ICU and NICU is a patient focused environment that features some of the latest technology and equipment, bespoke furniture and specialist lighting that matches the needs of human biological cycles. The new unit has seen a 45% increase in space allowing for an additional 400 adult patients each year. fermacell® fibre gypsum board was the material of choice for all internal partitions in place of standard plasterboard, as it offers a simplified solution with one board type without comprising the performance critera and finish required by the client. fermacell® single layer partition is a severe duty system that combines optimum fire, acoustic and impact performance, making it ideal for modern hospital environments.
